Cultivated primarily in Iran and Afghanistan, Hing finds it name in "The Excerpts of Vinidarius" a 5th century roman cookery book. During Alexander the Great's invasion of Asia, his army discovered it in the northeastern provinces of Persia and used it for tenderizing meat. In the days of Mughal aristocracy, the court singers of Agra and Delhi would eat a spoonful of it with butter for enhancing their voice before singing.

Infrastructure

Established in a pollution-free zone near Baroda, over an area of 40,000 sq.ft., the state-of-the-art infrastructure of National Foods is an epitome of manufacturing excellence. These facilities include India's largest and fully automatic plant for Hing processing and an AGMARK approved laboratory with excellent control equipment for humidity, drying temperature, mixing time and machine operations. This infrastructure also includes a dedicated packaging unit comprising a wide range of ultra-modern packaging machines.

Established in 1970, as a traditional grinding mill by the Late Shri Punamlal S Joshi, National Foods today is a leading name in the Indian spice industry and earned its reputation as The Hing Specialists. Starting with a capacity of just 10 kg per day over three decades back, National Foods has evolved into India's first and largest Hing processing plant with a capacity of over 3 tonnes per day. Currently run by the third generation of the Joshi family, National Foods continues to build upon a legacy of trust, quality and reliability.
